Youth mental health providers regularly support families through moments that are complex, uncertain, and emotionally charged. Whether responding to safety concerns, explaining behavioral health needs, or helping families understand what comes next, this work often depends on clear communication and strong relationships.
PracticeWise has introduced five new On-Demand Learning courses to support that day-to-day work. Available now in the PracticeWise Course Store, these courses expand our Psychoeducation and Connect offerings with developmentally informed, family-centered guidance designed to be practical, usable, and relevant across real-world settings.
Why These New Courses Matter
Across schools, clinics, community programs, and social service systems, providers are often asked to respond to challenging situations while helping youth and families make sense of what’s happening and what comes next. That might include addressing safety concerns, explaining mental health needs, or supporting engagement when trust is still being built.
These courses were developed to support those moments. Each one organizes complex information into practical, usable guidance that helps providers communicate clearly, involve families more effectively, and move work forward in meaningful ways.
Together, these On-Demand Learning courses for youth mental health offer a flexible set of tools that can be used across roles and settings—supporting both day-to-day practice and longer-term skill development.
Introducing Five New On-Demand Learning Courses
Crisis Management
This course provides a structured approach for responding to crisis events that affect a youth’s safety and well-being. Learners explore how to create a calm environment, assess for safety, involve caregivers, and develop plans that address both immediate concerns and future crises. The course also focuses on strengthening youth coping and problem-solving skills to support resilience over time.
Psychoeducation: Anxiety
This course supports providers in explaining anxiety clearly and compassionately. Learners explore what anxiety looks like across development, what contributes to anxiety, the role of health behaviors, and what families can expect from effective treatment. The course emphasizes turning complex information into conversations that build understanding and support engagement.
Psychoeducation: Disruptive Behavior
This course offers a developmentally informed, strengths-based framework for discussing disruptive behavior with youth and families. Learners examine how disruptive behaviors present across ages, how health behaviors may play a role, and how to explain treatment options in accessible, family-centered ways that reduce stigma and support collaboration.
Psychoeducation: Trauma
Conversations about trauma can be difficult for both providers and families. This course supports those conversations by helping learners distinguish between stressors and traumatic events, understand immediate and longer-term responses, and explain treatment expectations clearly. Developmental considerations and the role of health behaviors are integrated throughout.
Relationship/Rapport Building
Strong relationships are foundational to effective services. This course focuses on practical strategies for building trust, comfort, and engagement with youth. Learners explore how rapport supports information-sharing, skill-building, and participation across settings, making it a critical element of many helping interactions.
